It’s a tiny island, but the biggest economy on Barbados is easily tourism and the country caters incredibly well to all those who visit, with luxury getaways alongside cultural sights and traditional sounds, smells and tastes. For a relaxing holiday spot that has enough to keep the adventurers busy, there aren’t many places better than Barbados – it’s a paradise, clearly, and fortunately it lives up to the reputation. It isn’t the biggest place in the world, so the sights aren’t going to last forever, but even so there is plenty to see throughout Barbados and even more things to do. The capital of Bridgetown is a commercial centre and has an interesting mix of modern and colonial styles, along with plenty of bars, cafes and rum shops to keep everyone interested. The Old Synagogue, Belleville and St Michaels Cathedral, amongst others, are all sights worth seeing in the capital. Holetown is the islands oldest town and visitors can still take in St James Church, which was built back in the 19th century. Elsewhere on the island are other attractions such as the spectacular view from Crane Beach, the other thousand rum bars we haven’t mentioned, the plantation house of Farley Hill and Barbados Wildlife Reserve, amongst many other things. Many people like to take in the great contrast between the smooth, white sands of the West and the rugged, rocky East, as well as... Well, the rum!
